As a rider you constantly change the direction of your helmet. You’ll look out to the road in front, to the sides, your telemetry system as well as your riding buddies. As a result the visible lightspread of Brake Free will not only be visible from the already generous 180º viewing angle directed to the back. In fact it will throw about an incredible 270º viewing angle immensly increasing to your conspicuity as a rider. You can thank your head for that!

Brake Free offers 3 ride modes which you can easily cycle through by a short-press of the on/off button.

STEALTH-MODE Putting Brake Free in ‘stealth-mode’ activates only the centered 16 leds as DRL (daytime running light) at a ~20% dim-setting but once deceleration is detected all the 100 leds will light up bright for the highest ‘dim-to-bright contrast’ ideal for dusk/dawn and night rides.

NORMAL-MODE // If you prefer more visibility during bright, sunny days then activating ‘normal-mode’ on your Brake Free will increase the visibile angle of the leds to approx 240º. This mode activates all 100 leds that sit in the outer ring as DRL. Initially set to a ~20% dim-setting the 100 ultra-bright leds will increase brightness to 1100NITs (max output) immediately once a decelaration event is detected.

SAFETY-MODE // This mode will put the outer leds on your Brake Free in a sequential and continuous slow fading mode which draws immediate attention. Although it reacts the exact same way to any deceleration event as in Normal-mode, we did not necessarily intend that you’d ride Brake Free in this mode. Conspicuity-mode is especially useful in the unfortunate event your stuck at the side of the road with a failing motorcycle. Put your Brake Free in ‘Conspicuity-mode’ and place your helmet around 30 meters behind the motorcycle on side of the road to signal other traffic they have to manouvre around and position yourself out the way of collision.

Brake Free is equipped with both a gyro-sensor and a accellerometer. This way Brake Free will understand its orientation and sense any forward deceleration event. We also thoroughly designed an advanced algorithm that would filter-out usual head movement. This enables Brake Free to adequately focus on deceleration which means that Brake Free will signal once the rider actuates the footbrake or brakelever but also when he/she starts down-shifting and/or lets go off the gas.

If you put your helmet down for some time, Brake Free will automatically switch to ‘Active-standby’ in an effective attempt to preserve energy. While it might seem that Brake Free is turned off, its sensors are still on. Once you pickup your helmet Brake Free will automatically boot itself back up and revert to the last ride-mode selected.
